This is the winter seat of Lord Kedarnath and worship is done here during the winters when the temples of Kedarnath remain closed. The temples of Usha and Aniruddha, Lord Shiva and Parvati are worth visiting.



Ukimath is at a distance of 41 kms. from Rudraprayag and 13 kms. from Guptkashi. It is situated at an elevation of 1311 mts.

deities from Kedarnath and other Panch Kedar shrines arrive here in palanquins before winter sets in. They are accompanied by mantra chanting Acharyas and a retinue of simple hill folk with unquestioned reverence.

According to folklore, Ukhimath derives its name after Usha, the daughter of Banasur, who had lived here once. The place is dotted with several other temples as well; there are shrines dedicated to Usha, Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati, Aniruddha and Mandhata.

HOW TO REACH : Rudraprayag is around 50 km south. Nearest airport is at Dehradun. Closest railway station is at Rishikesh (185 km). Ukhimath can be reached by road from Guptkashi, Chopta and Rudraprayag.
